Frequently Asked Questions

How to calculate grade averages.

Add all your percentage grades together and divide by the number of grades. Example: you scored 88%, 74%, 91%, and 83%. Average = (88 + 74 + 91 + 83) ÷ 4 = 84%.
Check your syllabus. If all assignments count equally, use simple average. If some assignments (like a final exam) count for more, use weighted average and enter the weight for each item.
Yes — use the Letter Grades tab. Each letter is converted to its GPA point value, averaged, and then converted back to a letter grade and percentage range.
The national average GPA for high school students in the US is around 3.0 (B), corresponding to roughly 83–85%. At universities, the average GPA is approximately 3.1 (B). Grade inflation has raised these numbers over the past 30 years — in the 1990s, the average college GPA was closer to 2.9.
Graduation honors vary by school. Typically: Cum Laude = 3.5+ GPA (≈90%), Magna Cum Laude = 3.7+ GPA (≈93%), Summa Cum Laude = 3.9+ GPA (≈97%). Some schools use class rank percentage instead of GPA cutoffs — check your institution's catalog.
Focus on high-weight assignments first — a final exam worth 40% moves your grade more than ten 1% quizzes.
