Frequently Asked Questions

How to calculate your overall course grade.

Multiply each category grade by its percentage weight, add all the results together, then divide by the total weight. For example: Homework 90% × 20% + Exams 80% × 80% = 18 + 64 = 82%.
The calculator automatically normalizes your weights. If you enter 20% + 30% + 40% = 90%, it divides the weighted total by 90% instead of 100%, so the result is still accurate for what you've entered.
Yes! Just enter the categories you've been graded on so far and their weights. The calculator will show your current weighted average for those categories. For projections of your final grade, use the Final Grade Calculator.
The most common reason is a rounding difference or a dropped grade policy (where the lowest score is automatically removed). Also check whether your school uses a 10-point grading scale (90-100=A) or a 7-point scale (93-100=A). Make sure your weights match those on the syllabus exactly.
Your overall grade is a percentage or letter grade for a single course. Your GPA is a number (usually 0.0–4.0) that averages all your course grades, weighted by credit hours. An overall course grade of 90% converts to an A- and approximately 3.7 GPA points on a standard scale.
